THE FACE!

Oh that face, in the crowd, on a magazine cover, or in a dream!! An encounter, real or otherwise, that remains imprinted on the brain for a while, either in short or long-term. It's a visual that can trigger many emotions inside us! It may remind us of someone we knew before, bringing forth a waterfall of memories that play on our minds and trouble or please us ☺️ no end. At other times, it might be a metaphor for our expectations, a goal that seems near, yet so far out of reach.

One cold evening, while waiting to leave by train for another city, I encountered a face. In an instant, it had me drawn towards it, riding on a roller coaster of emotions! And when it receded from view, a strange emptiness surrounded me. This is what i wrote afterwards -

There she was

staring back at me

Or was she reading

the sign right behind me?

I remember the face

The dimpled chin

The faint smile hiding

A mystery within

Those long black tresses

That danced on her hips

As she walked past me

A song on her lips

I found myself taken in

By her easy charm

Was walking behind her

But the train let out an alarm

She was gone in a flash

I started to run but

It was a hopeless dash

As she looked out and turned

She was waving at me

Laughing like a child..

The dream was over

I came back to the wild

Was she my dream, my love?

Or, just a reminder

Of my loneliness….
