I am now officially in a writer’s block. Well, I said that in jest, but don’t we all encounter it, sooner or later? Remember the hollow feeling that strikes you while staring down an abyss? Sometimes, this arch-(read art!) enemy arrives suddenly, like a car stalling midway on a trip. At other times, it can gradually creep up your back. Either ways, this devil mostly succeeds in slowing your inner wheel till it creaks to a stop!

And it is tough to live through the emptiness. Creating art is our means of making sense of how we process things we observe around us. It keeps us sane & ultimately, helps us survive. Thus, this new experience of not being able to create deals blows of anxiety on our already fragile emotional existence.

The truth is, writer’s block is a reality check! While we may internally gloat about our gift for expressing through art, WB makes that castle crumble and can be truly humbling. Pinch yourself, this is real and you are human too, my friend.

How does one deal with it? Well, we all have our mechanisms- visit the mountains, sit with a cup of coffee, listen to new music, meditate…And sometimes these strategies do work- making vents in the levee which may eventually break and allow the rush of ideas to flow. But then, just like a diet plan, they stop working after a while.

So, what do we do then? I suggest that whatever happens, just keep the tap open & let the drops fall, even if it’s just a word, a stroke or a note. That’s what I am doing right now- not writing a song or a poem, but well just, writing. Doesn’t matter if it makes much sense, at least it’s something new! And who knows, the next song could be right around the corner!
